Ecumenical Endeavors

Throughout our history Chipman Gaspereau Pastoral Charge has been intentional in fostering strong ecumenical relationships. When an Anglican Church was being established in the 1920's they used Chipman United's sanctuary as a worship space until they found an alternate site. In more recent times people of the Pentecostal faith shared our sanctuary at Gaspereau Forks for a time in the 1990's.

Over the years 1st Chipman United Baptist at Gaspereau Forks and Gaspereau Forks United shared Sunday School and Vacation Bible School with congregational members attending both morning service at the Baptist Church and afternoon or evening services at the United. To this day, Gaspereau Forks United welcomes many members of it's United Baptist sister church to its services on a regular basis.

In the Village, Chipman United and 2nd Chipman United Baptist have enjoyed a healthy relationship over the years including holding shared Vacation Bible Schools, Holy Week Services climaxing with an Easter Breakfast, observing the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity with nightly evening services alternating between the two churches and CGIT groups visited back and forth for social events.

The Chipman Ministerial active for many years fell dormant for a few years and was reanimated in 2008. In addition to the ministers meeting from time to time to discuss common concerns regarding the greater Chipman area, the Ministerial plans ecumenical services throughout the year. A Celtic Service kicked off  the Chipman Summer Festival in 2008 with the Anglican priest, Rev. Phillip Pain, the Roman Catholic priest, Rev. Peter Stephen and Rev. Kathi sharing leadership. In December,50 or so people braved a snow storm to take part in 'The Voices of Advent", our 2008 Advent Carol and Candlelight Walk. In January, we celebrated the Week of Prayer of Christian Unity with a service at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church. The services give us an opportunity to share our common faith and following worship we enjoy a time of fellowship and refreshment as Christ's Community.
