THE LENTEN WAY: OUR JOURNEY TO THE CROSS
February 28, 2009
Throughout
Lent we gathered as pilgrims on a Journey to the Cross. We call upon
God to help us in our journey, with confidence that God’s steadfast and
loving relationship with us will sustain us. Recognizing the
prevalence of bullying in our schools, homes, workplaces and even the
church, and noting that Jesus, himself, was the victim of bullying as
our Lenten readings attest, we focused on anti-bullying throughout the
season. We wanted tolearn how to move through bullying issues so that
we are better equipped to deal with this problem wherever we encounter
it. This trek was not just a Sabbath or Lenten journey but one we
struggle with each and every day of the year.
Wear a Cross To keep the cross
ever before us, we invited our our parishioners to wear a cross during
Lent. Their cross might have been a necklace, a lapel pin, or a pocket
cross. We endeavored to share with others the story of ourcross: What
type of cross is it? Who gave it to us? On what occasion? What
significance does it have in our lives?
Wear Something PINK On Lent 4 Sunday March 22, 2009 as we stood together in solidarity with the anti-bullying effort, by wearing something pink.
Palm Sunday Goes PINK On
Palm Sunday people donated pink flowering plants or shrubs to put
along our Lenten Path in memory of a loved one. The plants were kept
for Easter Sunday Services and will later be distributed to our
shut-ins or, if hearty enough to be planted outside later in the
Spring, becoming part of our Manse or Memorial Gardens.
